What is call tracking?

Call tracking is a process of collecting specific information about incoming calls. It is widely used by businesses to measure the effectiveness and outcomes of advertising campaigns. Additionally, this process allows teams to track customer behavior and create data-driven reports.

As a rule, businesses use call tracking software to collect the needed information. this software records information related to incoming phone calls and, in some cases, may even record the whole conversation.

Some of the key call tracking metrics businesses focus on are:

  • The source of the incoming call (e.g. referral traffic, pay per click, organic search, etc.)
  • Phone number
  • Caller’s geographical location
  • Time distribution, etc.
